बाल अधिकार कार्यकर्ता श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश महात्मा अवार्ड्स एवं महात्मा गांधी अंतरराष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार से हुईं सम्मानित
सुप्रसिद्ध बाल अधिकार कार्यकर्ता श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश को बाल अधिकारों के क्षेत्र में उल्लेखनीय योगदान देने के लिए ‘महात्मा अवार्ड्स‘ एवं ‘महात्मा गांधी अंतरराष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार‘ से सम्मानित किया गया है। आदित्य बिरला ग्रुप द्वारा दिया गया महात्मा अवार्ड्स श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश को बाल आश्रम ट्रस्ट के साथ संयुक्त रूप से दिया गया है। वहीं नार्वेजियन सूचना एवं सांस्कृतिक फोरम, नार्वे द्वारा उन्हें महात्मा गांधी अंतरराष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया है। महात्मा अवार्ड्स श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश की ओर से बाल आश्रम की सुश्री अस्मिता ने किरण बेदी के हाथों ग्रहण किया, वहीं महात्मा गांधी अंतरराष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार उन्हें एक ऑनलाइन समारोह में दिया गया
श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश बाल आश्रम ट्रस्ट की अध्यक्ष और सहसंस्थापिका हैं। बाल आश्रम मुक्त बाल मजदूरों का भारत का पहला दीर्घकालीन पुनर्वास केंद्र है और यह राजस्थान के विराटनगर की अरावली पहाडि़यों पर अवस्थित है। श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश ने 1997 में नोबेल शांति पुरस्कार से सम्मानित श्री कैलाश सत्यार्थी के साथ मिलकर बाल आश्रम की स्थापना की थीं। बाल आश्रम देशभर में बच्चों को भागीदारी तथा बाल नेतृत्व विकसित करने के केंद्र के रूप में अपनी प्रमुख पहचान बना चुका है। आश्रम में रहकर शिक्षा-दीक्षा प्राप्त करने वाले पूर्व बाल मजदूर बच्चों ने इंजीनियर, वकील, गायक और सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता बनकर समाज के सामने एक मिसाल पेश की हैं।
श्रीमती कैलाश चार दशकों से बाल मजदूरी के खिलाफ जन-जागरुकता फैला रही हैं। वे बाल श्रम के खिलाफ जागरुकता फैलाने के लिए देशभर में हजारों किलोमीटर की यात्रा कर चुकी हैं। उल्लेखनीय है कि उनके नेतृत्व में बाल आश्रम से शिक्षण-प्रशिक्षण लेकर निकले करीब 27 हजार से अधिक मुक्त बाल मजदूरों ने समाज की मुख्यधारा में शामिल होकर अपना जीवन संवारा है। उनके प्रयास और पहल से विराट नगर में रहने वाले बंजारा समुदाय के बच्चों के लिए स्कूल की स्थापना हुई है। जिसकी वजह से बंजारा समुदाय के बच्चे पहली बार स्कूल जा रहे हैं। सहज स्वभाव, बच्चों के प्रति जुड़ाव, वात्सल्य और मातृत्व से भरी श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश को बच्चे प्यार से “माता” कह कर पुकारते हैं।
श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश सामाजिक बदलाव को समर्पित एक ऐसा नाम है जिनका जन्म 10 मई 1955 को लखनऊ में एक स्वतंत्रता सेनानी परिवार में हुआ। उनके दादा पंडित गया प्रसाद शुक्ल क्रांतिकारी और काकोरी कांड के शहीद थे। पिता महात्मा वेद भिक्षु समाज सुधारक और आर्य समाज के प्रसिद्ध नेता रहे। श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश एक सामाजिक आंदोलन में तब जेल गईं, जब उनकी उम्र महज 11 साल थी। गुजरात के गुरुकुल से स्कूली शिक्षा पूरी करने के बाद उन्होंने उच्च शिक्षा दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय और मेरठ विश्वविद्यालय से हासिल की हैं।
बाल अधिकारों के अभियानों में श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश की महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रही है। इसमें 1995 में आतिशबाजी बहिष्कार का अभियान प्रमुख रूप से शामिल है। यह अभियान मुख्य रूप से दिल्ली के 2000 से अधिक सरकारी एवं प्राइवेट स्कूलों एवं कॉलेजों में चलाया गया था। स्कूलों एवं कॉलेजों में अभियान चलाने का मुख्य मकसद पटाखा कारखानों में इस्तेमाल हो रहे बाल श्रम के खिलाफ जन जागरुकता फैलाना था।
श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश ने 2009 में विराट नगर में लड़कियों के लिए एक व्यावसायिक प्रशिक्षण केंद्र की भी स्थापना की। इस केंद्र में बाल श्रम और बाल विवाह की शिकार लड़कियों और महिलाओं को सिलाई-कढ़ाई और कम्प्यूटर के साथ-साथ ब्यूटिशियन की भी ट्रेनिंग दी जाती है। बालिका आश्रम में अब तक 29 गांवों की 1690 लड़कियों ने सफलतापूर्वक व्यावसायिक प्रशिक्षण पूरा किया है।
श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश आजकल देश के सबसे पिछड़े आदिवासी बंजारा समुदाय के बीच शिक्षा को प्रचारित-प्रसारित करने में जुटी हुई हैं। इन शिक्षा केंद्रों में बंजारा बच्चों को एक ओर जहां गुणवत्तापूर्ण शिक्षा सुलभ कराई जा रही है, वहीं दूसरी ओर उनके लिए बेहतर स्वास्थ्य और खेलकूद की सुविधाओं को भी सुनिश्चित किया गया है। श्रीमती सुमेधा कैलाश को बाल अधिकारों के क्षेत्र में महत्वपूर्ण कार्य के लिए वर्ष 2000 में रामकृष्ण जयदयाल हारमोनी अवार्ड, 2009 में गॉडफ्रे फिलिप ब्रेबरी अवार्ड और वर्ष 2014 में “आधी आबादी महिला अचिवर्स पुरस्कार’’ से भी सम्मानित किया जा चुका है।
